As you may be aware, Manningham council, in conjunction with Melbourne Water, recently finished flood mapping for large sections of the city of Manningham. You may have read in the Manningham Leader that some 10,000 homes are now regarded as being effected by flooding.

Manningham Council is planning to renew the special charge scheme for Templestowe Village shopping area. The scheme is meant to fund marketting and promotion of the shopping area with a view to promoting business activity.

Manningham Council often refer to a number produced by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) called the 'Average Weekly Earnings' to justify either it's annual rate increase or it's staff pay increase. They did this in the 2015/16 and also in the 2014/15 budget documents.

The state government proposes to cap rate increases for local councils. Local councils will only be able to increase rates at around the CPI each year. The CPI is currently somewhere around 2.4%. Currently Manningham council increases our rate bills each year by outrageous amounts of 5% and higher. And they have been doing this for many decades.
